2105 is one of 5 locomotives built in 1994 for North County Transit District that inaugurated the COASTER commuter rail service between Oceanside and downtown San Diego in 1995 on the Coast Line formerly owned by Santa Fe.
NCTD 2105 came to SCRM in May of 2025 along with the SF 5704. The original Morrison-Knudsen engine is a Tier 0, and in alignment with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) diesel emissions rule, upon retirement this engine was required to be scrapped – with proof of destruction required. NCTD 2105 joins the SCRM locomotive fleet as a non-power control unit.
