Harvey Girls

In the mid 1800’s, Fred Harvey, a businessman and entrepreneur, opened a chain of restaurants alongside the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. These restaurants were staffed by single, intelligent women, 18-30 years of age, with “good character.” These women came to be known as the Harvey Girls.  The Museum is home to the Harvey Girls Historical Society and the Fred Harvey Museum.
